Mega Structure Designs

There's a really interesting article on DRB with a load of images of architect/designers concepts for future Mega-structures. Lets hope that some of them will actually be realised and not just remain as a 3D concept inside a computer.....

This design by UK architect Yheu-Shen Chua has been awarded Third Place in eVolo's 2011 Skyscraper Competition: "One of the main purposes of the project is to allow the water from the upstream river to engage directly with the visitors through a series of containers.  

Belgian Architect Vincent Callebaut dreamed up a combination of skyscraper and airship, where the skyscraper itself floats in the air, feeding on a green "algae" energy: the "Hydrogenase" project is as eco-sustainable, as it is beautiful 

 Strange combination of a tree-like skyscraper and huge Zeppelin airship-inspired floating observation decks is a radical vision by Romanian Dorin Stefan Birou Arhitectura

Another alien creature-like Taipei concept is proposed for the Performing Arts Center, by B+U design

Algorithmic Architecture! More than just a catchy term, this is a great tool in coming up with organic and nature-inspired forms, based on mathematical algorithms

Nike Air Mags Back To the Future

 Is it really possible? Nike have released this teaser video with the intention of unveiling it today in Los Angeles!!! NiceKicks was invited to L.A. to be at the secretive launch and check out what he received when he got there in his words:

"When Nike gives you a call at midnight, you know it’s something good. With just a few hours notice Nike flew me out to LA for “a big announcement.” When they won’t tell you what it is until you get there, you know it’s something bigger than a new colorway of Dunks."

Upon arriving in the room, I found a box waiting for me with an iPod Shuffle with a personal message from Dr. Emmett Brown:

 “Welcome to Los Angeles. If my calculations are correct, over the next 24 hours you are about to see some SERIOUS SH*T!”

"Inside the box was an invite from to “IT’S ABOUT TIME…an unveiling that could change the course of time” as well as metal shield glasses.The table of goodies that included mid 80′s candy, Throwback Pepsi (forumla from 1985), and a copy of Back To The Future all but confirmed the suspicions."

Skydive From Space Update 4

YES!!! It's back on!!!

If you remember from our post back in October 2010 'Skydive From Space Update 3', the Red Bull Stratos project was halted due to a petty lawsuit.
Just today, I was checking to see if there had been any changes and I read this on the Red Bull Stratos website:

OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON CLOSING OF LEGAL CASE
June 30, 2011

The legal action filed by Daniel Hogan and PerDan, LLC in the Superior Court for the State of California for the Country of Los Angeles entitled Per Dan, LLC, et al. v. Red Bull GmbH, et al., Case No. BC 436456 has been mutually resolved by the parties out of court and the lawsuit has been dismissed.

Now get on and make history.....

Felix Baumgartner, the man attempting to set the new record, with Joe Kittinger, who has held the record for over 50 years.
