New York Graffiti Pt 1

Just got back from an amazing week in New York and it was great to be away from London and see the city that put graffiti on the map. I noticed that most of Manhattan island (I walked for miles and miles) is more on the grimey side of graff, which is exactly what I was hoping to find. I hardly saw any murals; it was all about the tags, word-based stickers & dubs...loads more pics to come in the next week!

Teddy Bear Skulls

Stephanie Metz has made some cute & cuddly teddy skulls with felt. This is her blag, sorry, her artist statement about the project: "A pseudo-scientific study of the morphology of skulls: the form and structures that differentiate one breed from another and give a sense of the story of the individual. My approach is to research, document, present, and interpret evidence in a formal manner. My subject species is the teddy bear: a creature made by humans (and made ‘alive’ by imagination) whose morphological history is tied to social trends." Umm, ok, let's just say that they look "really cool" instead.

von Scaramouche has some nice monoprints coming out on his site right about now....His compositions combine drawings, pictures, patterns and old iconic imagery. The particularity of Jason’s work comes from the fact that he uses a reproduction technique in order to make unique pieces. He works with multiple screens in order to create compositions while printing and he adds and subtracts images by controlling the opacity of the layers. The esthetic of his work is caracterized by the transparencies and nuances created by multi-layering.
